The Blinded Veteran Association (BVA) 62nd National Convention The 2007 event took place in Albuquerque, NM. It will occur once a year in different states.
Sub Organization (Primary interest of the Wounded Warrior Regiment)
Operation Peer Support Dedicated to the OIF/OEF group.
The Operation Peer Support is the primary focus of this information.
This year’s group is about 24 people. They hope to have many others in years to come. It involves personnel from every service, and visual loss of all types. Generally, it involves who lost vision in both eyes. Those who have lost one eye are not members.
The trip, including the airfare and hotel, are funded for the first visit.
The conference is focused on two things: Education and Motivation.
The motivation part is easy to understand. For many, this is the first time that they have spent a minute with another blind individual. Particularly the totally blind ones.
The other part, the education part, is fantastic. This information must be distributed. No one, and I mean no one, knows all of this. The one who knows the most is Thomas Zampieri, of the Blinded Veterans Association (Found below). He is located in Washington, DC. He attempts to visit those in Bethesda and Walter Reed. However, he is often refused permission. This issue is non-existent if the Marine Liaison’s authorize his visit. I strongly recommend approval.
